a monstrous creature

It's come to me. What perfectly describes the picture I get
when I see Protestantism in America, is the ancient chimera.
That's a Greek mythological monstrous creature made up of
pieces of multiple animals. That's what I was thinking of in
my last post regarding what appear to be really great new
theological ideas among evangelicals. You take an early church
doctrine as some kind of innovation, and stick/paste it on the
existing "animal" called Protestantism. In short, it's not
very pretty.
