Tim, Thanks for your response, I read and copied it for
study. If you were to look at a few of my old posts in
forestphilosopher.blogtoolkit.com, you would get a good
sense of my thinking. I ran a rather long "shoot-out"
with a well informed Calvinist pastor. My advantage is
that I was a Calvinist for years and now have a very
different understanding of things. In short, I know
the opposition's "every move". Some of my seminary
training was at Westminster; so one of the main things
I learned was the cruciality of presuppositions. My point
here is that people who go "by the Bible alone" wind up
all over the place. They are either "independent" or
reflect a piece or pieces of someone's "system".
They pretty much create a God who reflects their particular
style of Scripture twisting."Sola Scriptura" is a game of
arguing Bible verses, and every time I have played it it
just goes around and around. The Bible "thumper" can't
quit because that's all he has. I will, however, review
the particular verses you cite in keeping with our
discussion about "wrath" "image" , etc. Thanks again.
(Did I say "short version"!? You should see...! By the way,
I was refering to myself as Conservative since one might
be inclined to suggest my ideas must be "liberal".

I find your stance odd. Obviously, we all come with our own presuppositions. No one is a completely blank slate. I don't mean to say that I don't read or was never taught by anyone else. Just that the Word of God is ultimately the only tool that matters.
The debate comes down to what the Word of God says. It doesn't matter what Calvin or Augustine or Pelagius or anyone else has said when they are held up to the Word. They may help us understand, but there is no authority in their writings. the authority lies in the Word of God and that's what we must turn to to sort these issues out.
I realize I have presuppositions, but my desire is to have the authority and clarity of the Word of God trump any presupposition I have.
I don't think I have any 'moves'. Ultimately, we both just have the authority of the Word of God and must seek out the answers there. I'm not calling for a battle of proof texts, but of understanding the harmony and clarity of the Word of God.
